New Features to Enhance your Experience on the Blog!

Posted by Admin on

Hi All, I’ve been busy over the last few months adding some new features to enhance your experience on the site. Hope you find them useful!

Text Ingredients To Yourself (or Someone Else)

Many of you have requested an easy way to view ingredients for my recipes on your smartphone while at the grocery store. While it’s doable to use your phone to view the recipe through a web browser, I’ve streamlined the process for you.

At bottom of each recipe (immediately under the list of ingredients), you’ll see an orange “Text Ingredients” button. Simply click on the button and you’ll be taken to a page where, with a simple check of a box, you can check the items you need, omitting the ingredients you already have at home. After you’ve checked the ingredients you need, hit the “Send Text” button.

You’ll be able to text the necessary ingredients to your phone number OR someone that you’re sending to the store — easy as pie! (Note that this feature appears on mobile only.)

Share your Creations on Instagram

Do you feel particularly proud of how one of your recipes came out?  Do you think it’s picture-worthy?  Well, don’t be shy! I recently added a reminder on each recipe page to snap a photo of your finished dish and share it on Instagram. Be sure to tag me @onceuponachef and I’ll share it, too. Or, if you’re not into the social media thing, feel free to email me at jennifer@onceuponachef.com with a pic attached. I love seeing the recipes in living color!

Metric Measurements

I’m fortunate enough to have lovely readers all over the globe, and often get requests from those who live outside of the US for recipes to be converted to metric measurements.  I’ve actually had this feature for quite a while but it’s often overlooked. To view metric measurements, scroll down to the recipe box and immediately under the print icon on the right side, you’ll see a little toggle. If you move it from “cup measures” to “metric,” you’ll see measurements that will work for you. Most but not all of my recipes have these conversions. If you come across one that doesn’t and you need them, just leave a comment in the recipe or email me at jennifer@onceuponachef.com and I’d be more than happy to add them!

Recipe Tags

So, you’re planning to host a barbecue and have a general idea of what you’d like to serve, but don’t have the time (or patience) to go hunting for recipes that would work. Or an Asian recipe you’re preparing calls for 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, an ingredient that you don’t often use, and you don’t want the rest to go to waste. Enter recipe tags!  You’ll notice a SEE MORE RECIPES heading at the very bottom of each recipe box. Immediately under that are a variety of recipe tags including things like ingredients, type of cuisine, and season the recipe would be appropriate for. Additionally, there are more niche categories like Comfort Food, Valentine’s Day and Boozy. So, if you’d like an easy way to get more inspiration and other recipe ideas, get clicking on these tags!

You May Also Like…

Did your family love the Baked Ziti with Sausage you served last night for dinner, and are they clamoring for more pasta dishes? If you’d like to make quick work of finding other recipes that are similar or would appeal to your pasta-loving family, take a look at my new You May Also Like feature on each recipe page.

In the case of the baked ziti, you’ll get suggestions like Fettuccine Bolognese and Orecchiette with Sausage and Broccoli. If you scroll down to the recipe box near the bottom of each page, you’ll find these suggestions right above the box.
